Dr. Ian Yeung - Music Director 2011 - 2012

Ian received his master’s and doctoral degrees in choral conducting from University of North Texas (UNT) where he held Teaching Fellowships to teach undergraduate conducting as well as directing the Men’s Chorus. He studies under Jerry McCoy and Henry Gibbons, and had classes of orchestral conducting with Anshel Brusilow and Ronn Cummings. During his master’s studies at UNT, Ian concurrently pursued a master’s degree in Music Ministry at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Forth Worth. Ian also obtained a music faculty position at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) and North Lake College.

As for conducting engagements, Ian served as the director of UTD Chorale and North Lake Chamber Choir. During the appointments, he presented successful performances with professional orchestra and vocalists for several seasons. He was also the associate conductor of the Denton Bach Society and the conductor of UNT Symphony Orchestra in its Annual Concerto Competition. In October 2008 Ian founded and established The Vernon Choral Society. Now in the second season, the group has expanded to include high school and college students, college faculty, and local professional musicians.

Ian’s music talents and conducting skills are honored and refined as an active participant of the national choral workshops. In 2001, he was chosen to join as one of the conducting fellows in the Dennis Keene Festival. In the following year, he had the privilege to study and conduct excerpts from Bach’s Weihnachts Oratoriumunder Maestro Helmuth Rilling in the Oregon Bach Festival. Throughout the years in the United States, Ian has had numerous opportunities to study with national renowned choral conductors, such as Simon Carrington, Anton Armstrong, Maria Guinand, James Jordan, Dennis Keene, Alan Harler, and John Alexander. 


Besides his conducting profession, Ian also is a keyboard player and performs regularly with UNTA Cappella, Canticum Novum,Concert Choir, Collegium, Recital Choir, and Denton Bach Society as pianist, organist and harpsichordist.


Ian is now serving as music instructor at the Vernon College, Texas, and founder and conductor of The Vernon Choral Society. Since 2006,  Ian has been serving as a conductor for the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra (DAAYO). Recently, he is named as the new Artistic Director of both DAAYO and Dallas Chinese Choral Society.


楊顯基博士分別於零二年及零六年於北德州大學 (University of North Texas) 完成合唱指揮碩士及博士學位。楊氏早年畢業於香港中文大學音樂系。他亦於九八年至零二年間於美西南浸會神學院 (Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary) 修習聖樂及崇拜學碩士課程。 


在 北德州大學修業時,師承於Jerry McCoy,Henry Gibbons (合唱指揮) 及 Anshel Brusilow,Ronn Cummings (樂團指揮)。他獲得助教獎學金及研究生獎學金,並任教指揮學及帶領其Men’s Chorus。楊氏在畢業前已任教於 University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) 及North Lake College。


在 修習及任教其間,他曾帶領 Vernon College Chaparral Singers,UTD Community Chorale,North Lake Chamber Choir,UNT Recital Choir,Canticum Novum,UNT Men’s Chorus 及 Denton Bach Choir 與樂團演出。他亦在零八年十月創立了Vernon Choral Society並成為其音樂總監。進入了第二個樂季,團員已包括有大專及高中學生、教授及當地音樂家。


楊氏音樂的才華及指揮的技巧亦在不同的音樂節被肯定。分別在零一年及零二年,他於Dennis Keene Festival 及 Oregon Bach Festival被挑選為 Conducting Fellow,隨指揮大師 Dennis Keene 及 Helmuth Rilling 修習指揮。其後亦跟隨多位合唱指揮家學習如:Simon Carrington,Anton Armstrong,Maria Guinand,James Jordan,Alan Harler 及 John Alexander。 


除指揮合唱團及樂團外,他亦是鍵盤樂手。他曾為多個樂團的鋼琴,風琴及古鍵琴伴奏如:UNT A Cappella,Canticum Novum,Concert Choir,Collegium,Recital Choir 及 Denton Bach Society。


楊氏現在任教於德州 Vernon College,亦是Vernon Choral Society創辦人及指揮。自2006年起,他受 聘为達拉斯亞裔青年交響樂團指 挥。今年八月,他同 时被達拉斯亞裔青年交響樂團及華聲合唱團任命為音樂總監。

Dr. Aikuang Sun, DAAYO Artistic Director 2004 - 2010

In 2004, Dr. Sun was invited to be the Music Director of DAAYO. To get more young talents involved in a community youth orchestra, she expanded DAAYO into three ensembles with different levels: Symphony Orchestra for high school and up, Philharmonic Orchestra for middle school, and Youth Orchestra for Elementary school, each was conducted by their conductors. DAAYO grew from 30 members to about 90 members in 2004.  With the support from the DAAYO president and Board, DAAYO’s three ensembles started to perform four concerts each year. In the past six years (2004 – 2010), she put in a lot effort in collaboration with other local music talents.  Many well-known musicians and groups were invited to perform with DAAYO, including: Chen-Hwai Sun、Ryen Fen、Chieh Yang、Christina Long、Cinderella Liao、Alice Kan、Vincent Kuo、Lewis Wong、Grace Ho、Li-Ling Liao、Mei-En Chou、Hsiao-Ling Chang、Ching-Mei Lee、Shen-Pai Liu、Ying-Feng Chang、Li-Chan Chen、Cindy Liu、Camille Fu、Naoko Nakamura Stromberg、Gustavo Romero、Eugene Osadchy、James Scott、Great Land Choir Society, Hwa-Shen Choir、Sea&Sky Choir、Dallas Children’s Choir、Denton Bach Society.

Born in Taiwan, Dr. Sun received her Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting from the University of North Texas (UNT), where she studied with Maestro Anshel Brusilow (former conductor of Dallas Symphony Orchestra and current conductor of Richardson Symphony Orchestra). As a teaching fellow of UNT, she taught Fundamentals of Conducting and the conductor of Repertoire Orchestral. Currently she is an Associate Professor of Conducting at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), Taipei.

Dr. Sun extensive conducting experience, both orchestral and choral, includes appearances with the Lewisville Lake Symphony (2007), Aikuang Sun Taipei Philharmonic (2007 ), National Taiwan Youth Orchestra (2007), NTNU Female Choir (2007 Japan, 2008 Korea- ), UNT Chamber Orchestra (2003-06), UNT Repertoire Orchestra (2004-05), Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra (2004- 2010), Dallas Children’s Choir (2006), Taipei Century Symphony Orchestra (2004), Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra ( People's Republic of China) (2001), Hong Kong Oratorio Society (2001), Taipei County Symphony Orchestra (2000), Taipei YMCA Orchestra (1998-current ), Kaohsiung City Symphony Orchestra (1998), Taipei Medical University Orchestra (1997-2002), Russian Philharmonic Orchestra (1996), Taipei YMCA Oratorio Choir (1994-2002, 2004-06), Taipei Century Youth Symphony Orchestra (1993-97), Taipei Opera Chorus (1993).

After receiving the Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance with I-Mann Wu from NTNU, Dr. Sun further enhanced her piano skills under Maestro Robert Scholz. She began her career as Music Educator in 1980, at Affiliated High School of NTNU. After her Master’s conducting degree with David N.F. Liao, NTNU, additional study with Maestro Karl Österreicher, Vienna, and James Jordan, New Jersey, her further experience included teaching at the Music Department of National Taipei University of Education, National Taiwan University of Arts, Taiwan Theological College and Seminary, China Evangelical Seminary, and the music special program of Gu-Ting elementary school of Taipei.

Dr. Sun received awards from the Taipei Rotary International (1992) and National Science Council for Music (1997).  In 2008, she received the "Key of the City" from the Mayor of Lewisville, and in 2009, the "Outstanding Alunimi" of National Taichung Female High School. She has written several music textbooks, which were published in “The Journal of Music Study”, Taipei, and has participated in many research projects with the Ministry of Education and the National Center of College Entrance Examination in Taiwan. The Egret Cultural and Educational Foundation invited her to publish a recording, “Taiwanese Folk Songs” (1996).

Currently Dr. Sun is based in Taipei, and is the Music Director/Conductor of Aikuang Sun Taipei Philharmonic, Taipe YMCA Oratorio Choir and Orchestra, and Female Choir of NTNU.

前任音樂總監及指揮 (2004-2010):孫愛光博士

2004年,孫愛光受邀擔任達拉斯亞裔青少年交響樂團音樂總監一職 ,將樂團規劃為三個不同層次的團體: Symphony Orchestra 為高中與大專以上音樂科系學生的樂團、Philharmonic Orchestra 為中學學生的樂團、Youth Orchestra 為小學生的樂團。不同的樂團聘任不同的指揮老師,讓團員接受不同樂曲的音樂訓練,與培養舞台展演的信心。目前除了亞裔的孩子外,還有其他國籍的團員加入,每年在歷任團長與理事會的支持下,將三個大小團體於不同音樂廳場地,聯合展演四場音樂會: 三月在 Eisemann Center、五月在 Chinese Church、十月在St. Andrew’s Church、十一月在 SMU,每場音樂會接獲得好評。除此之外,亦有計畫地邀請許多中外音樂家,一起合作演出,並致力發表亞裔作曲家新舊作品,提升樂團音樂水準。過去六年以來,與DAAYO合作過的音樂家與團體計有:孫承驊、Ryen Fen、楊傑、隆愛真、廖英君、甘玲瑜、Vincent Kuo、Lewis Wong、何美恩、廖俐伶、周媺恩、張曉靈、李靜美、劉聲白、張穎棻、陳麗嬋、劉杏芳、符慧如、Naoko Nakamura Stromberg、Gustavo Romero、Eugene Osadchy、James Scott、神州合唱團、大地合唱團、四季合唱團、華聲合唱團、海天合唱團、Dallas Children’s Choir、Denton Bach Society。孫愛光一直努力於達拉斯地區僑界音樂活動,亦曾於2003年擔任海天合唱團副指揮。

她是美國北德州大學 ( University of North Texas ) 音樂學院管絃樂指揮博士,師事Anshel Brusilow (前達拉斯交響樂團指揮,現為李察遜交響樂團指揮) ; 國立臺灣師範大學音樂研究所指揮碩士,師事廖年賦教授;國立臺灣師範大學音樂系鋼琴學士,師事高慈美教授,吳漪曼教授。曾短期受教於國立維也納音樂院管弦樂指揮大師Karl Österreicher教授,與美國萊德大學西敏合唱學院合唱指揮大師 Dr. James Jordon教授。

孫愛光指揮展演頻繁,遍及美國、加拿大、俄國、中國、日本、韓國、泰國等地。合作演出團體:University of North Texas Chamber Orchestra and Repertoire Orchestra、Lewisville Lake Symphony、Russian Philharmonic、Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra、Dallas Children’s Choir、中國深圳交響樂團、台北縣立文化中心交響樂團、高雄市立交響樂團、台北 YMCA聖樂合唱團暨管弦樂團、台北醫學大學管絃樂團、台北世紀青少年樂團、香港聖樂團、高雄漢聲合唱團、榮光合唱團、台北世紀合唱團、政大合唱團、陽光台北交響樂團、臺灣師大大四女聲合唱團等。曾榮獲1992年中華扶輪獎學金,1998年獲行政院國家科學委員會研究獎,2008年獲Lewisville 市長頒發 “市鑰” 一只,2009年榮獲台中女中第二屆 “傑出校友獎”。

孫愛光目前為國立台灣師範大學音樂系所指揮組專任副教授,國立台北師範學院音樂系所兼任副教授、國立師大附中音樂班兼任教師; 以及台北YMCA聖樂合唱團暨管弦樂團、陽光台北交響樂團指揮與音樂總監。

Dr. Ai-Yue Ding - Artistic Director (1998 - 2004)

Dr. Ai-Yue Ding, one of the top 10 best woman conductors in China in 1970s and a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, was born in Xiamen city in China.  She started learning piano at age of 6.  At age of 11 year old, she passed the toughest audition in China and entered the Shanghai Music Conservatory, studying piano performance. At age of 19, she switched to orchestral conducting major.  In 1966, she graduated from the Shanghai Music Conservatory majoring in orchestral conducting.  She conducted the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, Youth Symphony Orchestra of Shanghai Music Conservatory, Shanghai Choir, the Beijing Film Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Jiangsu Province, and Hunan Province Symphony Orchestra.  Over the past 30 years, Dr. Ding conducted over 1000 concerts, film productions, operas, ballets, as well as the opening ceremony of The Chinese National Games.

In early 1990, she came to north Texas pursuing advanced degrees.  Very quickly, she first received her master degree in orchestral conducting from SMU and later received her doctoral degree in orchestral conducting from UNT.  During her stay in Dallas area from early 1990’s to 2006, Dr. Ding conducted the UNT symphony orchestra and SMU choir.  She and her husband, Mr. Chenghua Sun, a famous Erhu musician, were very actively participating in various community activities to promote the Asian music and classic music in Chinese community, especially in the young generation.  Together with other music advocates, volunteers and parents, this musical couple funded the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra (formally Dallas Chinese Youth Orchestra), Ambassador Choir, and the Great Land Chorus Society.  In March 96, she successfully directed the concert of the "China Lights" in the famous Meyerson Concert Hall.  This was the first time that a group of outstanding Chinese symphonic works was introduced to the American audiences.  This concert was well received and highly praised by Dallas public.  In 2000, she promoted the collaboration of local music groups and directed a well-attended concert featuring the Chinese masterpiece “Yellow River Cantata” in commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese war.  Over 200 performing members from five Chinese choirs in Dallas area and the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra joined the performance.

Currently Dr. Ding and her husband live in Shanghai, China, enjoying their retirement.

第一任音樂總監及指揮 (1998-2004):丁霭悦博士

丁霭悦, 福建厦门人,20世纪70年代曾被中国音乐界权威杂志“人民音乐”列为当代中国十大女指挥家之一,中国音乐家协会会员 。六岁开 始学钢琴,54年由厦门考入上海音乐学院附中主修钢琴,61年转入本科指挥系,66年以优异的成绩毕业。在国内她先后指挥过上海交响乐团、上海广播交响乐 团、上海音乐学院青年交响乐团、上海合唱团、北京电影乐团、江苏省交响乐团、湖南省交响乐团等。来美后曾获SMU指挥硕士和北德大交响乐指挥准博士。先后 指挥过北德州大学交响乐团和南美以美大学合唱音乐会,还受邀指挥过现代音乐团体《变之声》(Voices Of Change) 演出的谭盾作品专场音乐会。三十多年来,她先后 指挥过中外各类音乐会一千多场,其中包括交响乐、大型歌剧、芭蕾舞剧、清唱剧和歌舞晚会等,同时也指挥过国内许多大型音乐活动,如“第二届中国艺术节”开 幕式,全国大运会开幕式等。她指挥录制的唱片及为影视配乐的作品曾广为流传。她还在音乐杂志上发表刊登过多篇音乐论文。

来美国后丁霭悦先后参与 组建了 Ambassador 百人合唱 团,达拉斯亚裔青少年交响乐团及神州合唱团等。96年三月,在著名的Meyerson音乐厅又成功地指挥了“华夏之光”音乐会,首次将一批优秀的中国交响 乐作品介绍给美国观众,获得当地音乐评论家和社会舆论高度赞誉;同年六月应上海和南京等地交响乐团之邀担任指挥,在中国参加了国际交响乐年的公演活动。 97年5月为迎接香港回归,她与世界著名钢琴家殷承宗合作再次在Meyerson演出了钢琴协奏曲《黄河》引起轰动。同年11月,在上海音乐学院建院70 周年校庆舞台上她指挥上音附中的乐队大展身手而深获好评。2000年在美国达拉斯举办的当地五个华人合唱和达拉斯亚裔青少年乐团联合演出纪念抗战胜利五十五周年时,她指挥二百 多人共同演出了冼星海作曲的“黄河大合唱”,深得中外各界人士的赞誉。

此外,作为著名的音乐教育家,丁霭悦是美国国家音乐教师协会会员,美国德克萨斯州音乐教师协会会员和达拉斯教师协会会员,她所培养的钢琴学生多人,在美国德州地区的许多钢琴比赛中获奖。 丁 霭悦是一位充满激情的指挥家,她有敏锐的听觉和对作品独特的理解力,凡被她指挥过的中外乐团无不赞誉她那极富感染力的艺术魅力和风采。1993年和94年 她的名字先后被“中国音乐家名人录”和“中国当代艺术家名人录”收录。2004年,她的名字再次被美国最具权威的名人录Marquis收录于“美国名人 录”和“美国妇女名人录”。
